Totti has exceptional technique; he’s a fantastic player. The reason I respect him so much is because in Rome, all the weight rests on his shoulders. Totti is the King of Rome and an idol, and that inevitably brings a certain amount of pressure. So I have enormous respect for him, for his consistency in performances and his loyalty to the Giallorossi shirt. In Italy, he’s a legend.
I remember once, in a Liverpool–Roma match a few years ago, I had the task of marking him to limit him, but he always managed to get away from me. He positioned himself very intelligently, like a true number 10, and it seemed as if the ball was glued to his boots. He was very skillful and played the ball really well.
Not to mention his vision: he could see things on the pitch that others couldn’t even imagine. It was a pleasure to play against him. And if we had been on the same team, we would certainly have been on the same wavelength
